June’s featured photographer is Verónica Del Pino

Verónica Del Pino is a photographer born in Chiapas who has worked on various projects involving other artistic disciplines such as literature, fashion, performance, and music.

Her photographic practice focuses on contemporary journalism, showing the viewer, from a more intimate and empathetic perspective, her birthplace and how it relates to its people, customs, nature, and the land.

Her work has been exhibited at the Frida Kahlo Museum and the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum, among others. She is a recipient of the Program for the Incentive to Artistic Creation, as a Creator with a Career (PECDA 2018-2019) for her project Mímesis.

ORE’YOMO

For the Zoques, the most valuable virtue is the word, which is why we call ourselves “Ore’yomo” women of the word. This project explores and shows us the vast territory of the state of Chiapas (located in southwestern Mexico, bordering Guatemala) and its cultural diversity; how this, in turn, influences and relates to the women who have grown up or lived there.

This intimate journey explores, through images and words, women of different generations who have excelled in Chiapas; a territory often pierced by situations of marginalization, discrimination, racism, and gender insensitivity, yet it is also a land of poets and resilient women.

Seeing through female eyes—which tell human stories of growth—facilitates the creation of a better world.

Through this visual essay, I seek to preserve the memory, faces, and facets of those women who poetically express their identity and affirm their reality through the arts, culture, and the various activities they generate and highlight in Chiapas and in different parts of Mexico and the world.

I traveled three thousand kilometers to confirm “The value of the feminine, the importance of solidarity among women, the understanding of beauty and respect for the work of each of us, through something fundamental: the recognition of gender by our own gender.”

La fotógrafa del mes de junio es Verónica Del Pino

Verónica Del Pino es una fotógrafa nacida en Chiapas, ha trabajado en diversos proyectos que han involucrado otras disciplinas artísticas como literatura, moda, performance y música.

Su práctica fotográfica se centra en el periodismo contemporáneo mostrando al espectador, desde un lugar más íntimo y empático, su lugar de nacimiento y cómo este se relaciona con su gente, sus costumbres, la naturaleza y el territorio.

Su trabajo se ha expuesto en el Museo Frida Kahlo, el Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli, entre otros; acreedora del Programa del Estímulo a la Creación Artística, como creadora con Trayectoria (PECDA 2018-2019) con su proyecto Mímesis.

ORE’YOMO

Para los zoques, la virtud más valiosa es la palabra, por eso nos autodenominamos mujeres de palabra “Ore’yomo”. Proyecto que explora y nos muestra el vasto territorio del estado de Chiapas (Situado al suroeste de México, frontera con Guatemala) y su diversidad cultural; como éste a su vez influye y se relaciona con las mujeres que han crecido o residido ahí.

En este viaje íntimo se explora desde la imagen y la palabra a mujeres de distintas generaciones que han sobresalido en Chiapas; territorio a menudo traspasado por situaciones de marginación, discriminación, racismo e insensibilidad de género, sin embargo, también es un horizonte de tierra de poetas y mujeres resilientes.

Ver a través de los ojos femeninos–que cuentan historias humanas de crecimiento- facilita la creación de un mundo mejor.

Mediante este ensayo visual busco preservar la memoria, los rostros y las facetas de esas mujeres que expresan de forma poética su identidad y que se afirman en su realidad por medio de las artes, la cultura y las distintas actividades que generan y se destacan en Chiapas y en distintas partes de México y del mundo.

Recorrí tres mil kilómetros para constatar “El valor de lo femenino, la importancia de la solidaridad entre mujeres, el entendimiento de la belleza y el respeto por el trabajo de cada una de nosotras, por medio de algo fundamental: el reconocimiento de género por nuestro mismo género”.
