March’s featured photographer is Lucía Pizzani
Lucia Pizzani was born in Caracas (1975) and lives and works in London.
She has a BA in Communications Studies from the Universidad Católica Andres Bello, Caracas, a Certificate in Conservation Biology from CERC at Columbia University (New York) and has a Masters in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and Design (London).
Recent awards and residencies include: Photofusion Hotshoe Award 14, (London, 2014) the Emerging Artist Award by the AICA, International Art Critics Association -Venezuelan chapter-, (Caracas, 2013), and the XII Premio Eugenio Mendoza (Caracas, 2013) with a following Residency at Hangar (Barcelona).
She has exhibited internationally in museums and galleries such as Sala Mendoza (Caracas), Cecilia Brunson Projects (London), House of Egorn (Berlin), Queens Museum (NY), MOLAA Museum Of Latin American Art (LA), Jacobo Borges Museum (Caracas), Oficina#1 (Caracas), Stephen Lawrence Gallery (London), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Vigo, MARCO (Vigo) and Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá), among others. Her works is represented in private and public collections such as the Essex Collection for Art from Latin America ESCALA, Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, CPPC, Museum Of Latin American Art, MOLAA, Colección Banco Mercantil and Colección Juan Yarur.
Sagrario
In Sagrario Pizzani’s attention turns from decay to emergence. The works derive from a prior performance piece in which the artist revolved a fabric-covered body evoking the metamorphosis of a butterfly followed by its emergence from the cocoon. In this series the contours of the female anatomy describe different chapters of fictional narratives. She simultaneously draws out the paradoxical restrictive and emerging nature of life, not just of womanhood, but birth, puberty and adolescence. And in documenting this performance with collodion, wet-plate photography, she returns us to the monochrome origins of photography.

Sagrario
En Sagrario Pizzani sitúa su atención de la decadencia a la emergencia. Los trabajos derivan de una pieza anterior de performance y video en donde la artista evocó el cuerpo humano cubierto en tela como metamorfosis de una mariposa, seguido de su emergencia del capullo. En esta serie, los contornos de la anatomía femenina describen diferentes capítulos de relatos de ficción. Pizzani, simultáneamente resalta la paradoja restrictiva y emergente de la vida en la naturaleza, no solo en el desarrollo de la mujer, si no también en el nacimiento, pubertad y adolescencia. Documentando este performance con collodion fotográfico, Pizzani nos lleva de regreso a los orígenes monocromáticos de la fotografía.
