November’s featured photographer is Lucero Del Castillo

Lucero Del Castillo (Lima, 1981) is a photographer with a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (2021) and another in Contemporary Photography from the Centro de la Imagen (2018). Her work focuses on the dynamics between gender and power generated by socioeconomic conditions and cultural consumption. Her images emerge from research in various archives as part of an interdisciplinary option. She was winner of the Financial Incentives in Visual Arts 2022 (Peru) and was a finalist of the PHmuseum 2018 Women Photographers Grant. She has participated in exhibitions in Peru and France and is a university professor.

Contrapunto
Counterpoint is a photobook that questions the dialogue between image and poetry. Produced as a year-long correspondence between the archive of photographer Lucero Del Castillo, and the knowledge of poetry professor Víctor Vich, its aim was to explore another kind of conversation by trying to deconstruct the opposition between looking and reading. This correspondence was self-sufficient, as there were no questions or comments on the submissions. Both were aware of the difference in registers, but at the same time they sought to observe how the photograph and the poem explored that (personal or political) which has no words and which seems very difficult to be narrated.

La fotógrafa del mes de noviembre es Lucero del Castillo

Lucero Del Castillo (Lima, 1981) es fotógrafa con un Magíster en Antropología por la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (2021) y otro en Fotografía Contemporánea por el Centro de la Imagen (2018). Su trabajo se concentra en las dinámicas entre género y poder generadas por las condiciones socioeconómicas y el consumo cultural. Sus imágenes surgen de la investigación en diversos archivos en el marco de una opción interdisciplinaria. Fue ganadora de los Estímulos Económicos en Artes Visuales 2022 (Perú) y fue finalista del PHmuseum 2018 Women Photographers Grant. Ha participado en exposiciones en Perú y Francia y es docente universitaria.

Contrapunto
Contrapunto es un fotolibro que se pregunta por el diálogo entre imagen y poesía. Producido como una correspondencia realizada durante un año entre el archivo de la fotógrafa Lucero Del Castillo y el conocimiento del profesor de poesía, Víctor Vich, su objetivo consistió en explorar otro tipo de conversación intentando deconstruir la oposición entre mirar y leer. Dicha correspondencia fue autosuficiente, pues no hubo preguntas ni comentarios sobre los envíos. Ambos eran conscientes de la diferencia de registros, pero al mismo tiempo buscaban observar cómo la fotografía y el poema exploraban aquello (personal o político) que no tiene palabra y que parece muy difícil de ser narrado.
