May’s featured photographer is Carolina Agüero

Carolina Agüero was born in the city of Puerto Montt, Chile, in 1986. In 2008, she settled in Valparaíso to study photography at the Instituto Profesional ARCOS in Viña del Mar. She has provided photography workshops at Valparaíso Cultural Park; the University of Valparaíso; at Valparaíso’s cultural centre, the Casa Arte, and at the INJUV gallery. During 2013 and 2014, her work was included in an auction of Latin American Living Artists in Miami, USA. In 2014, she was made responsible for a section of the 3K Art Gallery in Spain, which provides a platform for emerging art, promoting co-operation between young artists and art theorists. Since 2014, she has participated in the online magazine, Imagenario, and was responsible for Visiones de Arte Contemporáneo (Visions of Contemporary Art), inviting photographers from different parts of the world. In 2015, Agüero received her first prize at the XXXVIII Concurso Nacional Arte Joven (National Competition for Young Artists), at the University of Valparaíso. Carolina has had solo and group exhibitions in  Argentina, Chile, Colombia and United States.

La Imagen Imperfecta entre Tu palabra y la Mía (The Imperfect Image Between Your Word and Mine)

I started to ask myself how one can go through life unmarked by bullying or violence, and above all how to confront, in a familial space a truth and an identity. In life one lives on the edge of reproach and discrimination; to take responsibility for oneself in a society full of regimens and stereotypes, being made aware of how your neighbour and the majority of the community live. I started to ask myself about certain episodes of violence occurring in the city, I suddenly started seeing posters of young lesbian women who hadn’t returned home, who had disappeared, who had been swallowed up by the earth. I photographed the posters and these faces have followed me and permeated my photography. These documents made it clear that there was a certain state of violence and silence. This was the start of this investigation, from the portrait, the video, the testimony, and my own testimony. With this format, I am trying to centre myself in the space of an image as a reflection both of my own history and that of many others.

La fotógrafa del mes de Mayo es Carolina Agüero

Carolina Agüero nace en la ciudad de Puerto Montt, Chile, en el año 1986.
En el año 2008 se radica en la ciudad de Valparaíso para estudiar fotografía en el Instituto Profesional ARCOS de Viña del Mar. Ha dictado talleres de fotografía en el Parque Cultural de Valparaíso, en la Universidad de Val- paraíso, en el Centro Cultural Casa Arte y en el INJUB.
En los años 2013 y 2014 hizo parte de la subasta Latín American Living Artists, E.U.U Miami. En el 2014 es elegida responsable de zona para la galería 3K Art España, que consiste en una plataforma de arte emergente que fomenta la cooperación entre jóvenes artistas y teóricos del arte.
Desde el 2014 participa en la revista online Imagenario siendo responsable de la Sesión Visiones de Arte Con- temporáneo, invitando a fotógrafos de distintas parte del mundo.
En el año 2015 obtuvo el primer premio de honor del XXXVII Concurso Nacional Arte Joven, Universidad de Val- paraíso.

La Imagen Imperfecta entre Tu palabra y la Mía

Comencé a preguntarme cómo se tiene que vivir para no sufrir la marca, el acoso, la violencia,  y sobre todo cómo enfrentar  en el espacio familiar la verdad e identidad. Se vive al filo del reproche, de la discriminación, de la vida, por asumir en una sociedad llena de regímenes y  estereotipos, la idea de una vida como la vive el vecino y la mayoría de la colectividad.  Comencé a interrogarme sobre ciertos episodios de violencia ocurridos en la ciudad; de pronto veía carteles de jóvenes lesbianas que no volvían, que desaparecían, que se las tragaba la tierra. Los fotografié y  esos rostros me han perseguido e impregnado mi fotografía. Esos documentos hicieron visibles un cierto estado de violencia y silencio. Esto fue el comienzo de esta investigación;  a partir del retrato, el video, el testimonio y mi propio testimonio.  Intentar de esta forma, centrarme en el espacio de la imagen como un reflejo, de mi propia historia y la de  muchas otras.
