September’s featured photographer is Gabo Caruso
María Gabriela Caruso Catsicaris, also known as Gabo Caruso is a photographer born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied photography at the Association of Professional Photographers of the Argentine Republic (2006). In 2011, she received a degree in Communication and Image from the Walter Benjamin Institute. In 2013, Gabo displayed her first individual work “Aesthetics of Nostalgia ” at the space of Camilanto. In 2014, she received a title in curatorship and communication of art. In 2015, participated in a residence of art and technology taught by the National University of the Arts. That same year she studied “contemporary photography ” at the NODE CENTER. During 2014 and 2015 she participated in the work clinic meetings with the artist Gaby Messina. Most recently, she gained a degree in photojournalism in Argentina and exhibited at PhotoAlicante, PhotoEspaña, TransEurope and Queer Festival in Germany.

“When I grow up I want to be a girl” – Cora told her mother, one night, before closing his eyes and giving himself up to sleep. In that dream space that hid in his pillow; another reality was announced: hers. That was two years ago; when Cora was not yet Cora. A few months later, the situation became untenable.
Trans infancy reflects the change of a heteronormative system that begins to accept diversity little by little.

La fotógrafa del mes de Septiembre es Gabo Caruso
María Gabriela Caruso Catsicaris, alias Gabo Caruso es una fotógrafa nacida en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Estudió fotografía en la Asociación de Fotógrafos Profesionales de la República Argentina (2006). En el 2011, recibió una licenciatura en Comunicación e Imagen del Instituto Walter Benjamin. En 2013, Gabo exhibe su primer trabajo individual “Estética de la Nostalgia” en el espacio de Camilanto. Posteriormente en el 2014, recibe un título en curaduría y comunicación del arte. Al siguiente año participa en una residencia de arte y tecnología impartida por la Universidad Nacional de las Artes. Ese mismo año estudió “fotografía contemporánea” en el NODE CENTER. Durante el 2014 y 2015 participó en las reuniones de la clínica de trabajo con la artista Gaby Messina. Más recientemente, cursa el posgrado en Fotoperiodismo (UAB) y exhibe en festivales tales como; PhotoAlicante, PhotoEspaña, Transeurope y QUEER FESTIVAL de Alemania

“Cuando sea mayor quiero ser una niña” – le dijo a su madre, una noche, antes de cerrar los ojos y entregarse al sueño. En ese espacio onírico que se escondía en su almohada; se anunciaba otra realidad: la de ella. Eso fue hace dos años; cuando Cora aún no era Cora.
Unos meses más tarde, paseando con su madre por el parque, la situación se volvió insostenible: “A mi nadie me ve” – le dijo Cora.
Hoy, Cora, es una niña trans que sueña con fabricar unicornios. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
La infancia trans refleja el cambio de un sistema heteronormativo que comienza a aceptar poco a poco la diversidad. El reportaje, de largo recorrido, pretende acompañar a Cora a través del tiempo, y en todos sus universos vitales.
