August’s featured photographer is Saraí Ojeda
Born in Veracruz, Mexico. She is a photographer and artist who explores with other media such as; video and sculpture. She graduated from the Contemporary Photography Seminar of the Image Center in 2014 and Master Degree of Arts with Honorable Mention by the Autonomous University of Morelos – Mexico. She obtained the First Place (Acquisition Award) at the International Image Festival.
In 2018, she published her photobook, Donde No Puedas Verme (Where you can not see me) with the publisher Inframundo in Mexico City, which was presented at the Paris Photo, Policopies and Unseen festival. Her work has been exhibited individually in the National Photo Museum of INAH in 2012, and participated in more than 30 collective shows. Her work was recommended by the magazine I-D VICE in the article “six photographers of today that you have to know”.
Her work was selected in the third Biennial of Veracruz, the plastic contest of the southern area of Mexico, the second Biennial of Contemporary Ceramics in Tijuana, the Sixth International Biennial of University Art in Toluca, the First Biennial of Art of Veracruz, the Seventh Biennial of Puebla and the First Biennial of Graphic Arts of Oaxaca.
Donde No Puedas Verme
Between text and image, this photobook builds the complex history of three generations of women in the author’s life. The mother’s house, full of mascots, dolls and peculiar objects, becomes a space both lost in fantasy and metaphor of an intricate and dramatic story that Saraí approaches oscillating between fiction and reality, in an honest and profound reflection in words and images.
Intervened old family photographs, images taken by the author, texts, and a delicate materials that include several different booklets, the narration of Donde No Puedas Verme is constructed and materialised in a fascinating final object, that hides and reveals disturbing family secrets.

Sus proyectos abordan las partes no visibles de la violencia que se manifiestan de manera psicológica, emocional o simbólica en su país natal. Explora en las diferentes capas de la memoria, examinando en sus vestigios e invenciones. Crea lazos estrechos entre la escritura autobiográfica, la memoria infantil, los sueños, las obsesiones, los roles femeninos, los núcleos familiares y la construcción de la identidad. Sus imágenes abordan los conceptos de dolor, duelo, ausencia, matriarcado y patriarcado.
Su foto libro fue publicado por la editorial Inframundo. Entre sus reconocimientos, obtuvo el Primer lugar en el Festival Internacional de la Imagen, (FINI 2014). Finalista del Premio Internacional FELIFA 2018, Finalista del Certamen plástico de la Zona Sur –FORCAZS 2018, Seleccionada en el Tercer Concurso de Fotografía Contemporánea de México (FUMCA 2017), así como en Siete Bienales de Arte; la Primera y Cuarta Bienal de Veracruz, la Segunda bienal de Cerámica Contemporánea de Tijuana, la Sexta Bienal Internacional de Arte Universitario, la Séptima Bienal de Puebla de los Ángeles y la Primer Bienal de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca.
Donde No Puedas Verme
Nace y crece en una familia matriarcal. Su madre, abuela y bisabuela impusieron sus decisiones a la familia entera. -La identidad de su padre y abuelo permanece en secreto; nadie habla en casa sobre ellos.
Documenta la casa que habitan las cuatro generaciones de mujeres, una casa repleta de objetos peculiares; – una alegoría de éste espacio porcelanizado y asfixiante – resultado del sofocante linaje materno que impuso su identidad, un espacio que oscila entre lo fantasioso y lo terrible, metáfora de la intrincada historia que aborda en el libro entre palabra e imagen. Donde No Puedes Verme, es la construcción de un refugio de fantasía, la casa y los personajes no son ficcionarios. Es su propia historia familiar habitada en este libro.
